Microsoft to Raise Xbox Live Subscription Fees in November

Starting November 1, Xbox Live Gold subscriptions are set to increase in price more than 20 percent across the board. Microsoft made the controversial announcement on Major Nelson's blog this morning.

"Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same," reads Xbox Live director of programming Larry Hryb's statement. "We're confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry."

Xbox 360 users in the U.S., Mexico, Canada, and the U.K. will all be affected by the change in subscription fees. Annual rates in the U.S. are increasing from $49.99 to $59.99, with single-month and three-month subscriptions rising to $9.99 and $24.99, respectively. Pricing for other regions is available on Hryb's blog post.
